BASSETERRE, St. Kitts- SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD Shadia Dore of Cayon broadly displayed the crease between her teeth last night (June 10) at Maynard’s Park when she was announced the 2011 Miss Green Mist.

The National Bank-sponsored beauty also took the Best Talent segment with a drama, song and dance presentation and the Best African Wear segment in a royal blue and yellow one shoulder dress accentuated her curvaceous figure.

Lynnika Small took the First Runner-Up position and her talent presentation addressed “Embracing our Culture”, while Latoya Caesar was adjudged Second Runner-up and her talent was dedicated to the popular Green Valley Master of Ceremonies, Damian ‘Cuttoe’ Liburd.

The other two contestants were Cherane Fyfield and Micayan Dore.

The contestants also participated in what was termed ‘Funky Segment’, where they had to use their creativity and put together a groovy outfit.

According to the organisers, that segment was not judged but it was done to give the young ladies an opportunity to loosen up and have fun onstage with each other.

Master of Ceremonies Liburd was his usual jocular self as he kept the audience alive with his bodily gyrations and appearances in several female outfits complete with stiletto heels and wigs.

There were also a number of sideshow acts by the Cayon High Dancers, Footsy and the Dymanyzed Ladies, among others.

The night climaxed with last year’s Queen Ivanka James taking her final walk and crowning the new queen.

Speaking with Dore after her victory, the 17-year-old said she was excited, overwhelmed and did not expect to win because of some mishaps she experienced earlier in the night.

She indicated that it had been her second pageant in which she was crowned. The 2009 Miss Netball Pageant was the first.

With a big smile, she also told this media house that as long as God spares her life she would be definitely entering more pageants.

Dore said there were times during her preparation for the pageant she felt like giving up, but she persevered.

A number of junior calypsonians were scheduled to take the stage last night but for some unknown reason(s) that competition did not take place.

The pageant ended shortly after 1:00 a.m. and the Fourplay Band entertained patrons until the wee hours of today.

The Green Valley Festival will continue tonight with the Senior Calypso Bacchanal.
