ROAD TOWN, Tortola, BVI - “We will continue to pursue the expansion in offerings and markets for programmes that HLSCC is well positioned to fill needs in the region. These include disaster managem ent, financial services, marine studies, and culinary arts – the actual physical facility for culinary arts is expected to be completed later this year,” he said on Thursday June 9, 2011 at the 18th graduation ceremony of HLSCC.

This is good news since works on the Centre, which is in Paraquita Bay, came to a halt in March 2011.

When VINO made contact with the relevant authorities affiliated with the project, the response was it will restart as soon as funding was sorted out.

In seeking an explanation as to the current status of the centre, Neil Smith, the Territory’s Financial Secretary (FS) divulged to VINO on April 14, 2011, that the project had been temporarily stopped because his department wanted to manage the cash flow.

“We don’t want to be placed in a position where we cannot pay persons their salaries,” he had told VINO.

The project, which began in October 2010, will cost Government an estimated US$2.2M.
