Former Principal of WAHS Mrs. Cynthia Williams cuts ribbon
The Washington Archibald High School now has a refurbished Science Lab, that ranks as one of the best, if not the best, in the Federation.

Former Principal of the school, Mrs. Cynthia Willaims, cut the ribbon on Tuesday morning, June 5th, during a brief ceremony on the school's compound, to commission the new lab.

Mrs. Charisse Dolphin- Gumbs, took on the task of getting the lab renovated. As part of the process, she was able to establish fruitful partnerships with a number of stakeholders including Social Security. Mrs. Dolphin-Gumbs took on the project as part of her university degree programme.

In a brief overview, WAHS Science teacher, Mr. Lenrick Lake, noted tat it was over six years ago that an appeal went out for assistance to refurbish the lab, but several obstacles were encountered.

He disclosed that work on the project began in February of 2007, with the knocking down of partitions and other old structures within the lab. He noted that there were hitches along the way but Mrs. Dolphin- Gumbs' strong will was the driving force to ensure that the project was completed.

Lake also took the opportunity to applaud Mrs. Dolphin- Gumbs for ensuring that her vision materialized.

Director of Social Security, Mrs. Sephlin Lawrence, said she was particularly pleased with the newly established relationship between Social Security and Mrs. Dolphin- Gumbs, and added that it was indicative of her company's intent to forge stronger bonds with the education sector.

Minister of Education, Hon. Sam Condor, said he was fully aware of the plight of Mrs. Dolphin-Gumbs for a lab, as when he got into office just over two and a half years ago that was one of numerous issues that was brought forward.

He indicated that the securing of financing was always an issue but he was extremely pleased to see that the vision of someone led to the completion of another school project.

He voiced his Government's continued support for the education sector, stating that "progress and development of a nation could not be any swifter than its development in education".

I her Vote of Thanks, Mrs. Dolphin-Gumbs thankd the numerous persons and companies that partnered with her to make her project a success. She also took the opportunity to thank her family, who gave her invaluable support along the way.
Following the cutting of the ribbon, the keys to the lab were handed over to Principal Clifford Govia.
