    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JUNE 7TH 2007 (CUOPM) - Industrial estate workers, bank clerks, teachers, police officers, government employees and persons as young as 18 years of age in St. Kitts and Nevis are to benefit from a policy

     

    in which 5,000 lots from 500 acres of land will be allocated to first time land owners.

     

    "These lots will be developed with infrastructure and distributed to first time landowners at a subsidised rate for up to 4,000 square feet. Land in excess of 4,000 square feet will be sold at current market rates," said Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, Sustainable Development, Information and Technology, Sen. the Hon. Nigel Carty.

     

    He said under the land distribution policy initiated by the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Government of Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, single

    Minister Carty said the Cabinet of Ministers, under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Douglas held extensive discussions on the new land distribution policy, which was recently unveiled by the Prime Minister Douglas in his feature address at the 75th Annual Conference of his governing St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party.

     

    He said that since initial announcement on May 20th, minor adjustments have been made to the policy as a result of the overwhelming feedback received from members of the general public.

     

    Minister disclosed that Prime Minister Douglas, who is also the Minister responsible for Land will furnish further details when the scheme is being launched and nationals will be informed of location, specific price of land,

     

    and the procedures to be followed in making an application under this special empowerment scheme.
