BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE body of a 25-year-old man was found this afternoon (June 13) lying on a track between the cane fields north of Pond’s Estate with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

The body was identified as that of Kervin Hanley of West Farm.

According to Police Press and Public Relations Officer (PRO) Inspector Vaughan Henderson, officers at the Basseterre Police Station received a report of a homicide at approximately 3:50 p.m. today.

“As a result, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Special Services Unit responded immediately and investigations revealed that Hanley’s body was found lying in a grassy area alongside a dirt road between cane fields in the Pond’s Estate area,” Henderson said.

He also said investigators informed that Hanley’s body bore injuries which appeared to be made by gunshots.

“The District Medical Officer was summoned and Hanley was pronounced dead on the scene. The Coroner was also informed and permission was given for the body to be removed to a funeral home under police escort,” he added.

The PRO noted that the scene was processed by officers from the Crime Scene Department and items of evidential value were collected and taken into police custody for further analysis.

“There are no suspects in custody at this time, however, investigations are ongoing,” Henderson said.

Hanley’s death had taken the number of homicides recorded in the twin-island Federation for the year to 13; 12 on St. Kitts and one on Nevis.
