CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (June 11, 2007) -- Deputy Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis the Hon. Sam Condor said there could be no greater tribute to the late Hon. Malcolm Guishard, a Kittitian and Nevisian patriot, than to ensure that St. Kitts and Nevis adopted a number of his strong views, ideas and suggestions with regard to the way forward for Constitutional and Electoral Reform.
Mr. Condor's comment came while he offered condolences on behalf of the government and people of St. Kitts, on the Department of Information's Nevis TV, to the family of Mr. Guishard, a Parliamentary colleague who passed away at the age of 55, at the Alexandra Hospital on Monday June 11, 2007.
"He passed before it [Electoral Reform] had been completed and I believe that the greatest tribute that we could pay to him is to make sure that the country adapts a number of his views, his ideas and his suggestions in terms of taking St. Kitts and Nevis forward," he said.~~Adz:Right~~
Mr. Condor who was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Jean Condor told the Department of Information not only had come to Nevis to be with Mr. Guishard's family in their time of bereavement but also to inform them that the Federal government stood ready to lend any support necessary in this difficult time.
"I spoke to the family about a state funeral and as you are aware, a funeral is a personal decision. So we are just waiting to hear from the family what they would like and all the arrangements would be accorded in response to their wishes and their requests.
"Whatever it is the family would like to have the government would be prepared to give the full support and assistance. So we are just awaiting to hear from the family. In fact I came over specifically to make sure that they are aware of that and to know that whatever is their wish we will be will to accord them that," he said.
Notwithstanding, Mr. Condor noted while he was not at the time in a position to disclose any period of mourning, the Federal Cabinet, in collaboration with the Nevis Island Administration, would determine when and the nation would be informed of that decision in the next 24 hours or so.
