(Charlestown, Nevis) --- On Monday night members of the community came out in their numbers to light candles for the late Hon. Malcolm Guishard, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Party on Nevis, Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM).

The ceremony was organized by leader of the 20+ Athletics Meet Committee, Jean Caines who is quoted as saying, "We are trying our best to show our support to the family of the late great Hon. Malcolm Guishard who left us suddenly this morning.

This morning was a lot of sadness and a lot of hurt and a lot of pain on Nevis."

She continued, "Everyone is not really a talker when it comes to showing sympathy so we felt that if we came over to the house to just talk a bit, laugh a bit and just hug, cry and show whatever emotions that we need to express we can do it here.

I would say that quite a few people did turn out and we are happy that we were able to be here and put it together."

The 20+ Athletics Committee was formed with the intention to host an athletic meet later this year during the annual Culturama celebrations.  The meet would be the first of its kind and according to Caines, the committee hopes to make it an annual event for persons over the age of 20 to exhibit their athletic prowess.

The Hon. Malcolm Guishard died suddenly on Monday.  After a routine trip to Gallows Bay for a morning swim, Guishard started complaining of chest pains and shortness of breath.  He was rushed to the Alexandra Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
