The UNESCO National Commission -- Sponsored-and-organised series of debates among High Schools on St. Kitts ended with a bang on Thursday 7th instant when the   final   two   schools   in   the   series,   Verchilds   High   and   St. Theresa's Convent High, Clashed at the Verchilds High School Auditorium.

This was a continuation of the on going activities to celebrate the bicentenary of the abolition of the slave trade. The teams debated the moot "Slavery and the Slave Trade brought benefits as well as dangers to both Slaves and Enslavers"

Both sides exhibited evidence of research and preparation as each sought to convince the judges of the strength and superiority of its argument.

It was pointed out during the debate that whereas the enslavers benefited much from Slavery and the slave trade, the slaves themselves also experienced some advantages, including an opportunity to experience a new environment, culture and religious beliefs.

St. Theresa's Convent High proposed the topic, while Verchilds High presented the arguments of the opposition.

At the end of a lively encounter, St. Theresa's Convent was adjudged the winning team while leader of that team, Bracea

    Adams, was deemed Best Speaker.

St. Theresa's Convent thus joins Basseterre High and Cayon High School as winning schools in the series.

Coordinator and Chair of the panel discussion and debate committee Mr. Blake pronounced himself pleased at the participation, high standard and outcome of the series of debates.
