BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ONLY one day after a car was badly damaged in an accident in Cayon, news of another accident reached SKNVibes which took place sometime after 5:00 p.m. in Bellvue along the Island’s Main Road.
According to a source on the scene, a white and maroon omnibus HA 146 was travelling towards Basseterre when it collided with a jeep P319 coming from the opposite direction.
The eyewitness reported to this media house that there was only one passenger in the bus but a child was travelling in the jeep along with the driver. He said he believes all four of them were injured but did not know to what extent.
SKNVibes spoke with Inspector Cromwell Henry who indicated that the jeep was driven by Amanda Edmeade of Saddlers while the bus was driven by Egbert Kentish of Challengers.
Henry’s statement concurred with what the source told SKNVibes. However, he noted that the bus came to a rest in the grass on the seaside of the road while the jeep was spun around to face the opposite direction.
He further stated that both vehicles were extensively damaged and that the driver of the bus sustained multiple lacerations about his body while the passenger Shirley Matthew of Belle Vue sustained a broken shoulder and multiple lacerations.
The Inspector indicated that the driver of the jeep along with her 6-year-old child who was in the back seat sustained multiple lacerations with head and neck injuries, while her 11 year old son who was seated in the front passenger seat escaped unhurt.
He said they were all taken to the JNF Hospital where they were treated and detained. Investigations are ongoing.
