BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – INFORMATION reaching this publication indicated that this morning (June 15) Delon James, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, suddenly collapsed in his Mattingley Heights home and died.

This information was confirmed by the acting Police Press and Public Relations Officer (PRO), Sergeant (SGT) Stephen Hector, who said that police this morning responded to a report at the home of James.

“Enquiries revealed that at about 5:15 this morning James suddenly collapsed in his home at Mattingley Heights while in the company of a male friend.

“A unit from the Emergency Medical Services was summoned but was unable to revive him. However, Dr. Mervyn Laws, who was also summoned to the scene, pronounced him dead,” Hector said.

The acting PRO declared that there were no signs of foul play and it is believed that James suffered a heart attack.

He noted that the police had recommended to James’ family members that an autopsy should be performed on the body to determine the exact cause of death.

SGT Hector informed that the 45-year-old James was the Chief Engineer at the Public Works Department “but was on suspension pending the outcome of a criminal matter”.

He also informed that investigations are ongoing and more information would be disseminated to the media “as they come to hand”.
