BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JUST some 14 hours after the sudden death of a Mattingley Heights resident, the partly decomposed body of a man was this evening (June 15) discovered in a house in Dorset Village.

According to the acting Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Sergeant (SGT) Stephen Hector, at approximately 7:02 this evening, officers at the Basseterre Police Station received a report that a foul scent was emanating from a house in Dorset Village.

“Having arrived, enquiries were made and preliminary investigations revealed that the body, which was found in an advanced stage of decomposition, was one Benjamin Lewis, also known as Country, formerly of Dieppe Bay,” Hector said in a press release.

He added that “the body was reportedly found by a neighbour who did not see him for a few days”.

SGT Hector also said that District Medical Officer, Dr. Reginald O’Loughlin was summoned to the scene and pronounced Lewis dead.

He further said that the Coroner, Chief Magistrate Josephine Mallalieu-Webbe, was notified and she gave permission for the body to be removed from the dead man’s home.

“Though no foul play is suspected at this stage, enquiries and further analysis are ongoing and, should it become necessary, further information will be forthcoming.

At about 5:15 this morning, 45-year-old Delon James, Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, suddenly collapsed in his Mattingley Heights home and died.

Like Lewis, no foul play was suspected but police had recommended to family members that an autopsy should be on the body to determine the exact cause of death.

Investigations into this matter are also ongoing.
