~~Adz:Left~~ BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (June 14, 2007): Honourable Cedric Liburd, the Parliamentary Representative for Constituency #8 is delivering on his promise to upgrade concrete roads in Conaree Village, with help from the Ministry of Public Works. The roads were built about thirty years ago.

Minister Liburd and Minister of Public Works, the Honourable Asim Martin visited Conaree today, where employees of the Roads Department were repairing two broken drains on one of the roads. The Roads Department has to dig the drains up and repair them before resurfacing can start on that particular road.

The Roads Department in the Ministry of Public Works started resurfacing the cracked roads with asphalt on Monday.

So far, three roads have been resurfaced. The road where the drains are being dug up will be resurfaced tomorrow. With the addition of asphalt, it will be another 10 years before any more work on those roads is needed, according to Roads Supervisor Ercell Douglas.

This is more good news for Conaree residents, who went to their Constituency representative for help with the upgrade.

Speaking with the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service in Conaree, Minister Liburd said, "I want to say how pleased I am that this work is presently taking place. These are a set of roads that were built a very long time ago so we have seen some decay in the roads. I really want to take this opportunity to thank the Ministry of Works for capping these roads."

The Roads Department spent full work days Monday and Tuesday, putting asphalt on the broken-up concrete. Yesterday and today, the Department focused on repairing the drains on that one road, which will be capped tomorrow, bringing to an end the works in Conaree.                                                                                          ~~Adz:Right~~

Speaking with SKNIS in Conaree, Minister Martin said, "We expect that this particular project would extend throughout the various communities island-wide, as we continue to improve the quality of the roads in the various communities."

Areas the Roads Department intends to work on include Old Road, Molineux, and Ottleys Village. In the Old Road area, Wingfield Road, which is by the health centre, will be widened. In Ottleys Village, the Roads Department will resurface a road and construct another one, and it will construct two roads in Molineux.

The Roads Department started re-constructing concrete roads at Half Moon Bay in Frigate Bay two weeks ago. The works consist of taking out the broken bits of concrete and replacing them with fresh concrete.

Recently, the Roads Department in the Ministry of Public Works resurfaced five roads in Bird Rock. It completed works there three weeks ago.
