BASSTERRE, St. Kitts – In a positive effort to maintain their unbeaten run, Tyron O’Loughlin showed what quality strike force Cayon FC have when they inflicted a 4-1 drubbing on SDP FC in the first of the best of three Finals on Tuesday night (June 14) at the Newtown Playfield.

Cayon’s first goal came in the 20th minute by way of penalty, which saw O’Loughlin with a powerful right foot sent the ball flying at a very low height into the back of the nets.

As the game progressed into the 39th minute, SDP’s midfielder Kennis Henry received a straight red card for misconduct.

Just before the referee signalled the end of the first half, O’Loughlin netted his second goal by evading an offside trap and outwitting the goalkeeper, who was the lone defender.

With Cayon leading 2-nil at the end of the 45th minute, SDP made two changes when play resumed.

Standing strong and with a hungry look on his face, O’Loughlin netted two more goals in quick succession; the first in the 52nd minute which gave him his hat-trick, and the second in the 59th minute.

SDP, on the other hand, were provided minimum scoring opportunities as Cayon’s defence seemed impenetrable.

They however had an opening in the 81st minute which saw Julian Benjamin neatly placing the ball in the back of the nets, but too late was the cry as the referee blew off the game.

Speaking with SKNVibes, Cayon’s Manager/Coach Al Edwards said, “We played a very good tactical game, looking at them and realising that they have more speed than us; so we played a bit deeper in terms of defence and turn the counterattack on them.”

Commenting on O’Loughlin’s performance in the game, Edwards informed that the striker was nursing an injury but he admired how he used his striking tactics and experience, and on occasions cause problem for the defenders.

“He is a valuable asset to us and we’re glad that he was able to deliver the goods,” Edwards said.

Now with one game under their belt, Cayon have been deemed favourites for the title which will elevate them to the Premier League. But as Edwards opined, “Overconfidence can lead to defeat. Therefore, all members of the team have been cautioned and in they will be going out in their next game with the same enthusiasm as seen in this one.”

Game two will be played tonight (June 16) at the Warner Park Stadium Newtown at 8:00.
