(Basseterre; St. Kitts): Police officers and members of Operation Future conducted another presentation at a primary school earlier this morning, Tuesday, June 19.

The officers also took along two top cop dogs of the K-9 unit to the Molineux Primary School.

The operation which is to encourage students throughout the federation to stay focused and keep out of trouble was started last year.

Officer Percival spoke to the students and encouraged them to be a promise as they sang the song, ‘I am a promise’.

“I want you all to be a real positive promise and I urge you grade six students who are moving on to high school not to get mixed up with bad crowds,” Percival said.

He further told the students that if they see someone doing something that they are not supposed to be doing that they should tell them they can do better.

The two top cop dogs named ‘Godfrey’ and ‘Ian’ then gave a demonstration as the officers hid some illegal drugs on one of the students, an explosive device in a desk and a hand gun under a tree in the school yard.

The dogs were then called in and the students watched excitedly as the two cop dogs sniffed around them and the school premises looking for the hidden objects.

Though a bit terrified at first, the students then warmed up to the dogs’ sniffing and running amongst them and became very interested and participative in the whole presentation.

A number of them even raised their hands without hesitation when the officer asked, if anyone would like to be a dog handler.

After the presentation the students begged for more but the officers had to leave, however, Officer Percival in closing appealed to the students to stay out of trouble during the upcoming summer vacation.

“Temptation will come and people would come and ask you to do things that would get you into trouble but remember if you do these things you would get into trouble,” he said.

“Don’t let anyone stand in the way of your dreams whether it’s to become a Doctor, Lawyer, Teacher or even a dog handler, remember that you have the potential to be good boys and girls, keep friends that will pull you up and not bring you down,” Percival ended.
