~~Adz:Left~~ Minister of Housing, Agriculture, Fisheries and Cooperatives, the Honourable Cedric R. Liburd said that after the closure of the 350 year old Sugar Industry in July 2005, the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis is working assiduously and still seeking avenues in which to assist the former SSMC workers.
Minister Liburd informed that apart from the severance payments that the former SSMC workers received that they were provided with skills training, job opportunities and also land for farming.
Minister Liburd said that the Government is now addressing the housing needs of the former SSMC workers. He stated that the former SSMC workers have contributed significantly to the economic, social and cultural development of St. Kitts and Nevis. He said that it was upon their backs that this nation built and that the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis appreciates this fact and is doing everything their power to ensure that the needs of the former SSMC workers are met.
Minister Liburd urges the former SSMC workers who are interested in Housing opportunities to present themselves and complete an application of interest at the following Community Centres from 9:30 am – 1:00 pm:
