BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, June 22nd 2011 – With the strong support of its sole Sponsor, Digicel, the St. Kitts and Nevis Special Olympics Team left the Federation on Saturday 18th June, 2011 for Athens, Greece. The SKN Team will be taking part in The Special Olympics World Summer Games slated for June 25th to July 4th.
Digicel’s Country Manager, Sean Latty and Marketing Manager, Marsha Lindo were present at the RLB International Airport to wish the athletes well and give a few words of encouragement. Country Manager, Latty expressed that, “Digicel will continue to support Special Olympics in the Federation and we know that all of you will do us proud as you participate in this year’s Summer Games.” Marketing Manager for Digicel, Marsha Lindo reminded the athletes that “the people of St. Kitts and Nevis are rooting for you and we anticipate much success and many gold medals upon your return.”
The athletes of the SKN Special Olympics Team also received encouragement and motivational words from the West Indies Cricketers during the Digicel Series.
They were also given the opportunity to school them on Bocce, the sport at which they will be strong contenders during the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games. The sponsorship cheque of EC$15,000 was also handed over by Digicel’s Country Manager during the Digicel Series, here in St. Kitts. In addition to their monetary support, Digicel was also happy to provide the entire 21 man contingent with Digicel-branded polo shirts and a BlackBerry handset to be used to bridge the gap of communication between Athens and the Federation.
While in Athens, members of the SKN contingent will be special guests of a welcome dinner hosted by Digicel’s Chairman, Denis O’Brien. Along with them will be members of the teams from other Digicel territories. Digicel wishes the athletes well in the Athens and are looking forward to welcoming them home with gold medals in hand!
