    Cable and Wireless, the leading telecommunications provider in the Federation has once again underscored their bid to be the catalyst for technological advancement in the twin island state with an ingenious collaborative initiative with Hewlett Packard, that allows patrons to purchase a desktop for as low as EC$999 and a Lap Top for and unbelievable EC$1299.

     

    The revelation for this new marketing thrust came at a ceremony at the company’s headquarters at Needsmust Estate, Basseterre, on Monday July 2nd.
    The Hewlett Packard (HP) Celeron Desktop sports an Intel Celeron Processor, a 512 MB RAM, an 80 GB hard drive, a 15 inch flat panel display, a mouse, keyboard and a CD-RW/DVD.

    Features on the HP Celeron Lap Top include an Intel Celeron Processor, 512 MB RAM, a 60 GB hard drive and a DVD RW.

    Chief Executive for Cable and Wireless, Ms. Patricia Walters said that she was extremely pleased that her company was able establish such a monumental partnership with Hewlett Packard (HP).
    She noted that such would be instrumental internet users from her company, as well as potential patrons, across the country and ensure that St. Kitts and Nevis maintain its status of having the highest internet penetration per household in the OECS.
    She implored residents to capitalize on the goods and services of her company as it has revolutionized the local technological sector.

    Ms. Walters cemented her claims with the disclosure that Cable and Wireless was the first to introduce a minimum speed of 512 at a price below EC$100 per month, the first to partner with local businesses, to facilitate desk tops and lap top financing and invest millions into the internet infrastructure.

     

      “Cable and Wireless is aware of the powerful medium in the internet which could fundamentally change the course of youth development and education,” the CEO stated.

                “It is no longer sufficient to be able to read and write and count. The current challenges require us to understand the functioning of this super highway we call the internet,” she added.
                  Mr. Ted Serrano, Solutions Manager for Hewlett Packard for the Caribbean and Bermuda, said his           company was overjoyed to enter into the business arrangement with Cable and Wireless and it was key in the efforts to ensure that the community is not behind the curve in the rapid advancing of technology.
    He indicated that the partnership also highlights the need for corporate marriages, which would significantly impact youth development .
    Mr. Robert Williams, Vice President for Customer Service with Cable and Wireless, indicated that the new partnership was a very positive response to the pressures of the information age and indicates that his company is staying right there, on par, with the pace of technology.

    Mrs. Laverne Caines, Vice President of Corporate Communications for Cable and Wireless, said she was excited about the new initiative which is demonstrative of her CEO’s affinity for the advancement of young people. 

     

    CompuZone is also a local partenr in the arrangement, as they are repsonsible for software maintenance.Hewlett Packard Company is presently the world’s largest information technology corporation.

     

    HP posted US $91.7 billion in annual revenue in 2006compared to US$91.4 billion for IBM, making it the world's largest technology vendor in terms of sales. HP is now the No. 1 ranking company in worldwide personal computer shipments, surpassing rival Dell, market research firms Gartner and IDC reported in October 2006. The gap between HP and Dell widened substantially at the end of 2006, with HP taking a near 3.5% market share lead.

     

    The other stakeholder, Cable and Wireless, is the leading telecommunications company in the Eastern Caribbean.
