Mr. Kelly Rogers, father of the two children who was burnt to death

Tragedy has given way to frustration and finger-pointing and shifting of blame, following the unfortunate death of two children, ages 3 and 1, on Monday July 9th, in Downing Street, Sandy Point.

The wails of the mother of the two deceased, Shawna Pemberton, were still fresh on the ears of many, when the father, Kelly Rogers, pinned the tragedy on her.
As soon as he arrived on the scene, Rogers said the disaster could have been averted.
“If them Police had let me keep my children, they would have never been dead,” he said.
“Every time I take my youths the mother always calling the Police to get me to give them back to her and they claiming that I don’t have rightful custody of the children,” he added.
Rogers alleged that the mother was irresponsible and abusive to the children, which is why he was always reluctant to let them go back by her once he had them in his custody.
“That same woman- who says she is a mother- beat up one of the youth “bad bad” because he “pee” the bed. That is not right,” The children’s father noted.
“Look at this now, she leave the youths locked up in the house and gone about her business,” he added.
The father was visibly distraught and his allegations were regularly interrupted by tears as he mourned.
The finger pointing was not limited to the mother, some persons among the crowd of onlookers that had gathered at the scene were questioning the Fire and Rescue Services time of response.

~~Adz:Left~~Many were of the view that the since the Fire and Rescue Services is just around the corner, they should have responded much more quickly.
However, upon investigating the issue, it was found that the Fire and Rescue Services’ time of response was very quick, taking into consideration when they were notified of the fire.
Another factor that may have contributed to the speed at which the blaze destroyed the house is the oldness of the wooden structure, which was quickly eaten up by the flames that produced an incredible inferno.
A similar tragedy, where two children perished as a result of fire, occurred earlier this year in Old Road.
