Damage to switching station at Friars Bay
Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts (June 25, 2011) -- At approximately 9:40AM on Saturday, 25th June, a fire at an 11,000-volt switching station in Friars Bay (on the South East Peninsula), caused an island wide shut down.

Various checks were carried out by engineers and technicians of the Electricity Department before the process of restoration began.

The process of restoration began at 10:00 a.m. with the closing (restoring electricity) of the S.S.M.C feeder and by 11:00 a.m. power had been restored to all areas except Lodge to Newton Ground.

Work is presently ongoing to repair damaged high voltage lines and equipment in those areas. The Department sincerely apologies for the inconvenience caused.
