BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Federation has recorded its 15th homicide at approximately 9:00 tonight (June 25) following a drive-by shooting on the Bay Road in St. Kitts in the vicinity of the Craft House.
Dead is 18-year-old Shaquille Greene of Bird Rock, who was said to be walking with a female companion when a car pulled up and an occupant fired three shots causing him to fall and die on the spot near to the entrance of the Craft House on the Bay Road.
According to sources, the former Basseterre High School student, who last year graduated from that institution, was seen in the vicinity of the Ferry Terminal in Basseterre just minutes before his demise.
Under the condition of anonymity, a young man said he was conversing with the deceased via telephone when he heard the report of gunfire.
The young man said he ran in the direction of the gunfire and found Greene lying motionless on the ground with his cellular phone next to him.
He said that Greene’s female companion, who had screamed loudly and ran when she heard the shots and realised he was hit, was seen a short distance away from the fallen body.
The body was removed from the scene by Jenkins Funeral Home under police escort after the District Medical Officer, Dr Mervyn Laws, pronounced him dead.
According to the police, a bullet wound was seen on the upper part of Greene's chest.
The police also said that there are no suspects at this time but investigations are ongoing.
Greene’s death has taken the number of homicides recorded in the twin-island Federation for the year to 15; 13 on St. Kitts and two on Nevis.
