Carl Shoy, the lone inhabitant of the house

A wooden house in College Street Ghaut, close to the St. Peter’s bus terminal, was totally destroyed by fire, despite quick response from the Fire and Rescue Services.

The fire occurred shortly after four in the afternoon, and even though the outer framework of the house still looks strong, the fire completely destroyed the interior.
Within minutes of their arrival, the Fire and Rescue officers were able to control the blaze, preventing its spread to nearby houses.
The house was unoccupied at the time of the incident.
Carl Shoy, the lone inhabitant of the house, looked rather distraught as he watched the firemen battle the blaze.
“Boy, I lose everything, set, other electrical things…everything,” he said.
The Fire and Rescue Services are yet to determine the cause of the fire but there is widespread speculation that the fire started on the inside.

A number of onlookers witnessed the fire as it happened around the time when many commuters are in the bus stop for the St. Peter’s area, waiting to go home after work.
