Roadtown Tortola, BVI, Friday, June 24 - According to the Director of the BVI London Office Mr. Kedrick Malone, the exhibit promises to be a colourful insight into the BVI through the eyes of Mr. Rymer who is an evolving visionary and philanthropist. Additionally, Mr. Rymer will entertain the gathering with his musical talents during an hour performance after the reception.

Over 100 friends of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) and invited guests will be in for a treat at BVI House in London on June 28 when local songwriter and artist Mr. Enriquito “Quito” Rymer debuts his ‘Phoenix Collection: Rising from the Ashes’ art exhibit and performance at the 2011 Territory Day Reception and Art and Culture Show.

Mr. Malone said Mr. Rymer is the ideal artist to kick-off this expanded presentation, explaining that this year’s show is different than previous ones as it focuses on a combination of visual and performing arts.
“Our goal is to give greater exposure to the artist and to broaden the type of art and culture offered to the London audience,” he said.

Mr. Rymer, who is also a prominent businessman, painted in his teenage years but diverted and focused his attention to music and entrepreneurship. He said his passion for painting drew him back to the art form in 2010, hence the theme ‘phoenix’ which is synonymous with where he currently is in his life, “ever rising, soaring and conquering.”

The show will also feature pieces from new BVI artists Ms. Aya Marie Hewlette and Ms. Kishma V. S. Penn.
Mr. Malone said the show will provide great exposure for their art work, adding that the pieces will remain on display at the BVI House for one year. Also, they will be for sale.

Additionally, the show will also shine the spotlight on the London 2012 Olympics where a silent auction will be held to raise funds to support the BVI athletes on the “Road to London 2012 Olympic Games”.

The silent auction features exciting prizes, compliments of the Long Bay Beach Resort, The Moorings, Sugar Mill Hotel, Leverick Bay Hotel and Vacation Villas, Guana Island, Dive BVI, Sail Caribbean Divers, Biras Creek Resort, Scrub Island Resort, Marriott Hotel and Ms. Anne Holloway. Prizes include dive packages, charter yacht sailing excursions, holiday stays at renowned resorts throughout the BVI and roundtrip tickets on Virgin Atlantic.

This year’s guest of honour is Member of Parliament and Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Group and Chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee Mr. Richard Ottaway.

The Government of the Virgin Islands in collaboration with the Friends of the BVI Committee has held the Territory Day Reception and BVI Art and Culture Show at BVI House in London, UK, since 2004.
