St. Kitts Entertainment Week-end review

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WHAT a tiring weekend it was with the 15th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival being held and other hang out spots being in full swing to keep visitors and nationals entertained.

On Friday it was the second night of the St. Kitts Music Festival, which saw a huge turnout and featured great performances by seven Jamaicans. Veteran ‘Zugu Zen’ singer  Yellow Man took the stage first and was deemed one of the best for that night.

He was followed by Coco Tea who lived up to his name as one of the best reggae artistes. The night was then topped off with Maxi Priest, Black Ryno, Konshens, Demarco and Gyptian and ended after 3:00 a.m.

After the show many patrons headed to Sugars for the after party which was not yet in full swing when SKNVIbes arrived. However, about an hour after, the event picked up its pace and was soon  crowded.

With the festival being over that late, one would have thought people would be tired and would therefore go straight home, but judging from the crowd on the Frigate Bay Strip, it would appear that many people’s minds were far from bed.

The Strip was filled with patrons and Ziggy’s Bar ‘showed out’ as patrons lined both entrances, some swaying to the music while others stood around. ‘I Love My Life’ singer Demarco was also spotted hanging out at the front of Ziggy’s accompanied by a few individuals.

In Sandy Point ‘Feel Good Fridaze’ had its usual hype atmosphere although the venue did not have a packed house.

Saturday was a night to remember being the final night of the St. Kitts Music Festival which featured Jah Cure, The Commodores, Fantasia and East Meets West. Fantasia rendered an excellent performance and proved that her melodious voice was not just in her recordings.

The Frigate Bay Strip was once again the place to be after the big show. The Breeze Bar managed a full house with many females ‘wining’ and ‘bubbling’ their waistlines to some dancehall hits.

Ziggy’s Bar attracted the biggest crowd again that night but most people just stood around and socialized while a few in the front by the DJ booth partied hard.

Yesterday, (Sunday) at the Frigate Bay Strip, ‘Somewhere Bar’ was the place to be with the Grand Masters Band. Many individuals lined the lawn and the Strip’s driveway to listen to the live music from the band.

Four females managed to pull a crowd to witness their own ‘bouncing booties’ and other moves suggested by the band’s vocalists.

Some meters away from that event the Fourplay band was entertaining a more mature crowd at Doc’s. Upon walking to the venue it seemed as if the venue was void but it was the total opposite and had a huge crowd.

Further down the beach a few ladies were showing off at Ziggy’s Bar to the sounds of the Kollision band. This venue also had a large turnout.
