The campaign for the next general election has begun. That was the most often expressed sentiment during the massive public meeting held by the People’s Action Movement in the Cayon community of Sunday 15 July. The threat of inclement weather made some uneasy but those fears proved unfounded as the weather remained dry but chilly. The residents were not deterred and came out in their numbers to hear the program presented by the leadership of the PAM for a new beginning for our now benighted Federation.

The pressing issue of the day, electoral reform, was popular with the crowd especially as persons are becoming more aware of what is at stake as a result of the campaign by the People’s Action Movement to keep the issues in the public domain by publishing documents and other forms of public education. The topic was ably handled by the Hon. Shawn Richards.

The local Candidate for the PAM, Mr. Eugene Hamilton, got a rousing reception as he discussed not only local issues but also those two topics for which he has acquired a reputation for expertise the housing scam and the issue of electricity. Mr. Hamilton repeated his now well known annihilation of the Government’s housing program which is nothing but an election gimmick that costs the Federation a significant sum annually. He excoricated the planned addition to the already skyrocketing national debt in the form of loans from Venezuela and dismantled the façade that is the low income housing scheme.~~Adz:Right~~

The ever rising cost of living was the remit of Mr. Roy Fleming who is the Candidate for Constituency # 2. He had no problem getting a strong response from the crowd who live in the poorest part of the country according to the most recent poverty assessment. Everyone is reeling from the high prices and high taxes and Mr. Fleming drove home the point that we have Labour to thank for this state of affairs. Mr. Grant wrapped up the meeting with an encouragement to hopefulness in the choice to change course that will soon come as all signs leads to the feeling that the campaign for the next general election has begun.
