The People’s Action Movement returned to Old Road after an extended hiatus with a large public meeting on Thursday 12th July. This was the first meeting for the year as previous ones were cancelled due to inclement weather and nation – wide electricity interruptions. The huge crowd in attendance was testament to the significant inroads that has been made by Mr. Grant through his campaigning efforts including house to house interviews and community outreach activities. The crowd was lively and responded well to the speakers and a highlight was the presentation given by local community resident popularly known as “Magoo” who is a calypsonian.

The five speakers touched all the bases is information packed speeches but Mr. Grant really brought home the message as he dealt with local issues as the last speaker. The litany of failures of the current representative was repeated to devastating effect and the crowd eagerly applauded and hollered their disgust with the status quo. The other speakers kept the crowd keen and lively with vibrant discussion of the most current issues including electoral reform which was handled with usual aplomb by the Hon. Shawn Richards. The issue stirred strong reaction in the crowd especially when the honorable representative for Constituency # 5 reminded the crowd that it has been the People’s Action Movement that has kept the light on the sham the Government is perpetrating on the people and that all the disclosures up to this point have been done by the PAM.

~~Adz:Left~~The ordinary issues of the high cost of living and the unrelenting upsurge in crime were well handled by Mr. Roy Fleming and Mr. Glenroy Blanchette. These topics generated strong responses in Old Road in light of the recent problems with drugs, guns and altercations with the defense force that have plagued the community with no interest from the Government. In addition the community is among the poorest in the country and yet has been considered a strong hold for the Government. That is definitely changing and the response to the meeting is a good sign for the PAM.
