BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A man, who was last week Monday (June 20) ordered to perform 50 hours community service for beating his girlfriend, appeared in court Monday morning (June 27) and was fined EC$1 000 for beating a man in his head.

Trevor Primus of Fry’s Village appeared before Her Worship Josephine Mallalieu-Webbe at the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court charged with hitting Joseph Riley in his head with a wooden object used as a domino scoreboard.

The court was told that the incident occurred during a domino game in Greenlands within proximity of the Resident Judge’s residence on Sunday, April 3, 2011.

Primus pleaded guilty to the charge but with explanation.

He told the court that while playing a game of domino among a group of individuals on the day in question, Riley stealthily approached him from the rear, peeped at the domino pieces in his hand and provided another player with the information.

Primus said he accused Riley of the ungentlemanly act but he denied the allegation.

He further alleged that it was not the first time Riley had done something of that nature and, as a consequence, he hit him on the head with the domino scoreboard.

Riley told the court that he reacted by picking up a sizeable rock and hit Primus to his side.

The court was also told that while the two men were engaged in the fracas, a police officer who resides in that vicinity heard the commotion and went to investigate.

It was reported that when the officer arrived at the scene, he took away the domino scoreboard from Primus, but the accused picked up a metal chair and told Riley “I gon kill you @*#*+ hole”.

The officer reportedly took away the chair from Primus and placed him under arrest.

The Chief Magistrate found him guilty and ordered an EC$2 000 compensation to Riley which is to be paid in three months, and if in default he would have to serve a similar period in jail.

She also issued a restraining order against him, whereby he must remain 50 feet of Riley for a period of two years.

Additionally, Primus was fined EC$1 000 to be paid in three months or he will have to serve a three-month jail term.
