Press Release

PORT OF SPAIN Trinidad, July 5th, 2011 -  As Shiv Chanderpaul faces the Indians in the final Digicel Pearls Test in Dominica, his elder son Taignarine Chanderpaul will do battle against his regional counterparts in the West Indies Under-15 Tournament in Trinidad.

Young Chanderpaul did not get a chance to feature in the first round match between Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago as rain washed out the two-day fixture.

Guyana will take on Leeward Islands starting today and, weather permitting, Taignarine will have a chance to show his worth as a batsman.

Not unlike his world-renowned father, Taignarine has been scoring prolifically in domestic cricket in Guyana and will want to take his form into the regional tournament.

After the severely rain-affected first round Jamaica lead the points table, followed by Barbados and Windward Islands.

    Points after Round 1:

    Jamaica – 6.1

    Barbados – 3.1

    Windward Islands – 3.1

    Leeward Islands – 3

    Guyana – 3

    Trinidad & Tobago – 3

*Teams secure one tenth (0.1) of a point for each wicket taken by a fast or medium fast bowler.

T&T U-15s face Jamaica today Jul 5, 2011 - Defending champions Trinidad and Tobago will hope for better luck in their Round Two match of the 2011 West Indies Cricket Board Under-15 Championship, bowling off today from 10 a.m. against Jamaica at National Cricket Centre in Couva, after rain ruined their tournament opener last weekend.

Jamaica lead the tournament with six points, while the other teams—T&T, Windward Islands, Barbados, Leeward Islands and Guyana—have three points each.

T&T's first match against Guyana was abandoned due to rain at Inshan Ali Park, Preysal without a ball being bowled on either Saturday or Sunday, while the Leewards could only muster 66 for three before their match-up with Barbados was cancelled.

Jamaica had enough time to grab first innings points in their rain-affected encounter with the Windward Islands, replying to the Windwards' 65 all out with 82 for nine.

The winners of the T&T-Jamaica clash will likely take the lead in the standings, so the match in Couva will be crucial for both teams.

The other two encounters will see Barbados oppose the Windwards at Honeymoon Park in Tunapuna, while the Leewards meet Guyana at Wilson Road in Penal.

All matches bowl off at 10 a.m.

    Today's fixtures:

T&T vs Jamaica, Inshan Ali Park, 10 a.m.

Barbados vs Windwards, Honeymoon Park, 10 a.m.

Leewards vs Guyana, Wilson Road, 10 a.m.
