ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, July 5th, 2011 - Registrar, High Court Registry Ms. Paula Ajarie speaking to the Department of Information and Public Relations explained that the commercial court registry provides administrative support to the Commercial Court. – The Commercial Court Registry, which is a critical component of the Commercial Court, was officially opened.

She explained, “Commercial claims and applications with all supporting documents are filed at the Commercial Court. Additionally, searches of Commercial Court records are facilitated there.”

“Case Flow Management of all commercial matters is undertaken from the Commercial Registry whereby dates are fixed for the matters to be heard by the Commercial Court Judge.

This process ensures that cases are allotted an appropriate share of the court’s resources and are dealt with expeditiously,” Ms. Ajarie explained. The contract for the commercial court registry was signed on September 16 by the Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal and the Managing Director of Builder’s Choice Mr. Roy Barry.

At that signing the Premier explained that Government is doing everything possible to make the Commercial Court and the officers who work in the court comfortable.

He said, “We are trying our very best to make sure the premises for the court are presentable and it will be a place where upon arrival it will be evident that justice is dispensed.”

The Commercial Court Registry is located on lower Main Street, on the second floor of the old government administration building that formerly housed the Post Office.

The Commercial Court Registry forms part of the Deputy Governor’s Office and Departments’ 2010 work plan initiatives, one of which is to modernise the courts in the Territory while continuing to promote a public service culture of productivity and accountability.
