    Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. DouglasBASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, AUGUST 9TH 2007 The date for the bi-election to fill the seat made vacant in the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly following the death last June of Leader of the Opposition, the Hon.Malcolm Guishard has been announced.

     

    Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas in a nationwide radio and television on Thursday afternoon said he had fulfilled his constitutional responsibilities regarding the holding of the Bi-Election to be held in Nevis #9 necessitated by the death of the Hon Malcolm Guishard, Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition in the Federal Parliament i.e. the National Assembly.

     

    He informed the Federation that earlier Thursday he met with His Excellency the Governor General, Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian and advised, in accordance with Section 48 of the Constitution of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, of the holding of the By-Election in Nevis 9.

     

    "I am to announce that Nomination Day is Saturday 18th August 2007, and the Poll will be on Monday 27th August 2007," said Prime Minister Douglas, who invited "the leaders of the political parties and all others who have an interest, and all citizens to take note and act accordingly."

     

    The people of Nevis elect three representatives to the 11-member St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly.  ~~Adz:Right~~

     

    Parties with seats in the lawmaking body are St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, 7; People’s Action Movement (PAM), 1; Nevis Reformation Party (NRP), 1; and Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM), 1.Guishard was the other CCM representative.
