Bank of Nova Scotia on Fort Street, Basseterre

There have been some concerns from employees of the Basseterre headquarters of the Bank of Nova Scotia, as well as from some customers, with regards to the intoxicating scent of oil paint, after the bank was painted over the weekend.

It is alleged that owing to the fumes from the paint, two employees and one customer fell ill and had to seek medical attention, on Monday, August 13th.
According to reliable sources, the customer was at the teller’s counter when she fainted and her body started “shaking”.

One of the employees, who fell ill on Monday, fell ill again on Tuesday, after she had returned to work, it has been alleged.

A health inspector was discharged to the bank to investigate the situation after complaints but his reports have not yet been publicized.
On Tuesday morning (today), the bank’s doors were wide open, as attempts were being made to dissipate the paint fumes.
~~Adz:Left~~ Additionally, buckets of water were placed in certain areas of the bank, in an effort to “draw the scent of the paint”.
Unconfirmed reports state that even the local painter who did the job noted that the paint fumes would be a bit dangerous because they did not get the chance to properly ventilate the bank for the paint could dissipate properly.
Employees also voiced their concerns and many were of the view that they should not be allowed to work under such intoxicating conditions.
