According to political pundits in St. Kitts, the political pot is expected to simmer some more on Friday 17th, when both major parties will be having major activities.

The ruling Labour Party Administration will be having the launch of its “empowerment through land ownership” initiative, while the People’s Action Movement (PAM) will be hosting a “march for democracy”, which basically is a campaign highlighting their quarms with the ongoing electoral reform process.

Many see both activities as clear indicators of increased activity on the political front, which translates into heightened awareness with regards the constitutionally due elections in 2008.

“The pot just a simmer! It is just like when you cooking. Before you can throw in the major ingredients, you have to throw in the base ingredients,” one street vendor noted.   ~~Adz:Right~~

Supporters of either side- the Labour Party and the PAM- are crying foul in relation to the timing of both activities, as they see it as only being the basis for a political clash.

“Well see for yourself, some people are going to relish the simmering while in other cases it is going to leave a bad feeling for others,” the vendor added.

PAM supporters are claiming that the Labour Party wilfully has organized the launch of the land scheme in an effort to eclipse their march for democracy.

They also allege that the “powers that be” are trying desperately to disrupt the march by denying them requested areas to culminate the march.
It has been reported that the PAM march was supposed to culminate on Bank Street, but they were advised by the Police to end it at the Bay Road.

Shortly after, the PAM was advised that the culmination point was changed to the Basseterre Bay Road.

That change was shortlived, however, as they were further notified that the culmination point would be the Cenotaph.

Interestingly, up to the time of the posting of this article, the culmination point of the march was not finalized. It was reported that Leader of PAM, Mr. Lindsay Grant was to have met with the Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr. Stafford Liburd, to put forward a recommendation that the march ends at the CEMACO Parking lot.

PAM supporters also claim that it is a direct ploy by the Labour Administration to distract the people of St. Kitts from calling for a fair electoral reform process.

Labour supporters indicate that such allegations by the PAM are quite on the contrary, as it is quite common for the ruling Labour Administration to highlight any initiative that redounds to the benefits of Kittitians and Nevisians.

Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Denzil Douglas, believes in the empowerment of residents, especially, and who are we should not deny that celebration of  such a  belief, Labour supporters contend.

Labour Supporters went so far as to add that even though PAM was promoting the march, there was no definitive route that was established.

The Labour Party activity is expected to be held by the Circus

The fingerpointing will undoubtedly continue as there is increased awareness with regards to the constitutionally due elections of 2008.
The general consensus is that both political parties will be utilizing the activities to gauge their standings for the upcoming elections.

The political pot is indeed sizzling!
