People's Action Movement

At a large public meeting in the stronghold town of Sandy Point on Wednesday 15th August the People’s Action Movement announced that the 2007 Road March winner in the national carnival in Antigua & Barbuda, the band Burning Flames, will be accompanying the March for Democracy on Friday 17th August.

This announcement was greeted with loud cheers as a mood of anticipation and excitement enveloped the crowd gathered to hear the program planned for the big event. The speakers were all focused on the coming demonstration that will give the people a chance to vent collective dissatisfaction with the Government controlled Electoral Reform process.

The Mount Idle meeting was the fourth in a week long series of events that has succeeded in raising public awareness of the several severe flaws in the Government process and highlighting the many ways in which an independent and fair process would be superior to the status quo.

The evening culminated with a street jam accompanied by the local Lights out Band which thrilled the crowd into the wee morning hours. On Tuesday night the meeting was in the village of Old Road on the Island Main Road. This was very close to the site of a brutal murder just three weeks prior and the mood of the villagers is still raw from that traumatic event.

Despite or perhaps because of this the crowd gathered for the meeting was the largest that the People’s Action Movement has drawn in Old Road outside of an election campaign.

The speakers were all very well received by the crowd especially when it was pointed out just how a corrupt electoral system will saddle the Federation with an inept and negligent Labour Government for a further five years.

The excitement about the upcoming protest march was palpable and the issue of a fair, transparent and credible electoral reform process has strong resonance the majority of the people. The very popular Nu Vybes Band brought the meeting to a close with a street jam that continued early into the next morning.
