    Tourism Month Slogan Competition-is closed
The winning slogan will be announced in a week.

    New Heritage Signs
Four Heritage Sites around the island are experiencing a new look, in the form of brand new signs describing their history, in English, French and Spanish.  The translations were made possible through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  Due to weather related wear and tear, the previous signs were in need of a facelift. The Product Development Department of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority commissioned new devices and earlier this week began installing them, with help from a community group called Boys Entertainment. These signs have been constructed with a more durable material and thus should withstand the changes in weather for a long period.

The Heritage Sites are: Independence Square, Bloody Point, Black Rocks and the Anglican Church Yard in Middle Island.  Businesses are now being encouraged to partner with the St. Kitts Tourism Authority to help finance other such signs for the island.(Photo no.1-Sign at Independence Square)

Antigua& Barbuda Tourism Cadets St. Kitts Fashion

Five High School graduates from Antigua & Barbuda spent a day on St. Kitts, as Tourism Cadets Corps.  These students all have aspirations to develop a career in the Tourism Industry.  The St. Kitts Tourism Authority was pleased to play a part in inspiring these students and planned an itinerary for them to experience the island. After arriving at 6:45am on Wednesday 22nd, the students were treated to breakfast at the Frigate Bay Beach Hotel, an island tour, lunch along the Frigate Bay Beach Strip, a siesta back at the Frigate Bay Beach Hotel and an afternoon of shopping.  According to one of the students Shenelle John, “ My experience on St. Kitts has been wonderful!…Brimstone Hill is just amazing…and I would recommend that you come to St. Kitts.”  This programme has been designed to expose young students to the Tourism Industry in the neighbouring islands of Antigua & Barbuda. 17 YEAR OLD PILOT

Granville T. Smith a 17 year old from the USVI, is making a maiden voyage through the region during which St. Kitts has been slated for him to touch down on.  The St. Kitts Tourism Authority was contacted by Mr Smith’s team about his arrival and sprang into action to put in place a small ceremony to greet him at RLB Airport, yesterday Thursday 30th.  A senior official of the Ministry of Tourism congratulated him on his achievement thus far and handed him two tokens; one of which was a welcome letter from Hon. Richard Skerritt and the other a certificate from the St. Kitts Tourism Authority to mark the occasion. Granville in turn gave a gift bag from the Tourism Office in the USVI.

He began in St. Thomas, where he resides and flew as far south as Trinidad, on his way up the chain of islands he stopped in Dominica, and Aruba, to name a few. Seventeen year old Granville is due to return to St. Thomas on Friday August 31st at 2pm.  Some interesting information on this teenager: his departed grandmother is from Tabernacle Village, St. Kitts.

Tourism Month 2007-Preparations in full gear

Bi-monthly meetings to plan the activities to commemorate the important role Tourism plays in the economy, began in May 2007.  Representatives from the Taxi Associations; SKN Hotel & Tourism Association; Caribelle Batik; Ministries of Education, Agriculture; St. Christopher Air & Sea Ports Authority; the Department of Parks & Beaches and other private and public sector organisations have met consistently with members of the Ministry of Tourism to develop a plan for the month.   The month’s activities give an indication as to some of the important local aspects that would contribute to a globally competitive Industry.  The itinerary for Tourism Month 2007, scheduled for October, will be launched to the public on September 27th, World Tourism Day.
