CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (September 05, 2007) -- Nevisian Ms. Monique Liburd a student of the Charlestown Secondary School Sixth Form College came first in Nevis in the 2007 Caribbean Examinations Council’s Caribbean Advance Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) has also been named the Federation’s top scholar.
Premier of Nevis and Minister of Education Hon. Joseph Parry made the disclosure on Tuesday September 04, 2007 at his Bath Plain office and told Nevisians they should be proud of Ms Liburd’s performance.
“I must announce, very proudly of course, that Monique Liburd not only had the best results for the CAPE examinations on Nevis but she had the best results in the State. She obtained seven Grade 1s the only student to do so in St. Kitts and Nevis.
“We have every reason to be proud of her performance. She is a Nevisian, she was educated in a private primary school on Nevis and she went to the Sixth Form. We can tell our children this is how they should aim to perform. I congratulate the teachers of the Charlestown Secondary School and the Sixth Form, her other teachers throughout her life and her parents for the hard work that they did. Monique has been an exemplary student, very hard working, very thorough and she deserves every commendation for her outstanding performance,” he said.~~Adz:Left~~

Meantime, Ms. Liburd who resides at Braziers Estate has taken up duties at the Charlestown Secondary School as a tutor of two foreign languages Spanish and French. She told the Department of Information, that she was elated when she received word of her achievements.
“I am happy I really didn’t expect. I did not react how everybody else thought I would. When I heard Mrs Hodge call me and she asked me why I didn’t drop the phone and I was I don’t know, to me I just did it. I don’t know how to react. I was happy, I was happy.
“I got eight ones overall in Sixth Form and a two for Spanish Unit II, a three for Maths Unit II. The eight ones were for Biology Unit I and II; Communication Studies, Caribbean Studies, French Unit I and II, Spanish Unit I and Maths Unit I. In the final year I got 4 ones a 2 and a 3,” she said.
A beaming Ms. Liburd said, though she had taken up teaching at the moment, she planned to pursue studies overseas in 2008 and major in Biology.
