    (Basseterre; St. Kitts):
    Nesta Clarke was announced as the winner of the Tourism Month 2007 Slogan competition earlier today, Wednesday, Sep. 6 during a ‘big reveal’ press conference at the Royal St. Kitts Marriott Hotel’s St. Vincent Room.
    From a field of about 150 entries, “Know the Environment, Know Tourism, No Environment, No Tourism” was the winning slogan submitted by Clarke.
     
    The runners-up were also present including first runner-up Eloise Herbert with her slogan “Unlimited Pleasure, Addictive Leisure. St. Kitts Tourism an experience to treasure”.
     
    Her prize was sponsored by the St. Kitts Scenic Railway and Stone Walls Restaurant.
     
    Claudine Saunders was the second runner-up winner. She won a prize from Island Hopper for her slogan, “Kittitians: Preservation, Conservation, Education, Lend themselves to a perfect Nation”.
     
    The winning prize was a tour on Blue Water Safari’s Catamaran cruise, and a night for two at the Marriott Hotel along with breakfast and dinner.

    Along with the top three winners Minister of State with Responsibility for Tourism, Culture and Sports, Richard Skerritt was present.
     
    Skerritt said that one of the purposes of the competition is to get the people of St. Kitts and Nevis involved and take ownership for the future direction of this country.
     
    He said the theme for the competition was slated around ‘Environmental Sustainability’ and that it is evident from the submissions the people are concerned with this country.

     He also said that the Department of Tourism will continue with competitions of this type so that everyone does not lose focus of who they are and of the legacy our fore fathers have left us with.
     
    After learning of her win Clarke said that she was excited to learn her slogan was among the top three the day before and that that slogan was the lone one she submitted.
     
    “I think my slogan epitomizes what citizens should be looking at as sustainability for tourism,” she said.
     
    The month of October is celebrated at Tourism Month.
