BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – INVESTIGATIONS were launched earlier today (July 14) at the Sea Port in St. Kitts after “suspicious” item(s) were discovered in one of the warehouses. The items, although not yet confirmed, are believed to be firearms.
Information surrounding the incident is sketchy; however, SKNVibes understands that units from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force were summoned to the scene to provide assistance with security and investigations.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) to the Customs and Excise Department, Larry Vaughan, told this media house that there is very little he could say at this stage but the public would be apprised of the incident at a later time.
He indicated that, “At this point, all I can say to you is that we are investigating a find that we find suspicious…We have called in our security counterparts to assist with the situation. We have to take an inventory of the items found and then determine what will be the best way to reveal it to the public without jeopardising the investigation…”
Vaughan explained that the area in which the “suspicious find” was made, was cordoned off – as per procedure – to ensure that accurate information is collected and documented.
As a result, those who are within that area would remain there until the first leg of the investigation would have concluded, while persons who are without will remain there.
The PRO promised that a press release would be disseminated for public digestion sometime today.
