BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MONTHS after advertising the position of Commissioner of Police (COP), the government of St. Christopher and Nevis has officially named Celvin Geron ‘CG’ Walwyn as the man who will sit at the helm of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

The official announcement was made this afternoon (July 14) through a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Press Secretary, Erasmus Williams.

Part of the communiqué reads, “As part of its heightened and multi-pronged approach to crime fighting, the Government of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis today identified Mr. Celvin Geron ‘C.G.’ Walwyn, as the candidate who will succeed Mr. Austin Williams as Commissioner of Police in the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.”

When contacted by SKNVibes for a comment on the release, Williams indicated that he had no knowledge of its dissemination. He however declared that he was aware of the interview process which began months ago and was also officially informed that “a Mr. Walwyn was the successful candidate”.

With a wealth of law-enforcement experience under his belt, Walwyn, according to the release, is fitted with a Criminal Justice Bachelor of Science degree, a Security Management Master of Science degree and has also “completed his formal studies for the PhD in Public Safety-Leadership”.

A Kittitian by birth, the law officer migrated to the United States Virgin Islands during his early teens and subsequently to the United States of America where he pursued a career in law enforcement.

He has followed in the footsteps of his father, Zephaniah Joseph, who served in the RSCNPF to the rank of Inspector.

“Mr. Walwyn has held the positions of Deputy First Class in the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Orlando, Florida; Deputy Sheriff, Harris County Sheriff’s Department, Houston, Texas; Interim Chief of Police, Kendleton Police Department, Kendleton, Texas and Surveillance Director at Equifax Services, Houston Texas.

“C.G. Walwyn, will come to the post of Chief of Police with a wide range of skills and expertise in critical areas of law enforcement such as intelligence gathering to drive the crime fighting strategies of the Force…,” the release stated.

The size of the pool from which Walwyn was selected is not known to the public but comments previously made by Prime Minister Dr. Denzil L. Douglas indicate that an Inspector and a Sergeant of the RSCNPF were among seven individuals who were interviewed for the position.

Commissioner Williams succeeded Robert Jeffers in 2008 when he took command of the RSCNPF.

He has since attained retirement age and was rumoured to have been retired since last year.

That rumour however did not prove true, and although a date signalling the end of his tenure and the commencement of Walwyn’s was not given, National Security Minister Sam Condor has previously indicated that Williams would retire after his successor was named.
