~~Adz:Left~~ Basseterre, St. Kitts - The Department of Culture through its Calypso Revitalization Programme has already held the first in a series of workshops which targeted sixteen (16) youth Calypsonians. Six (6) young Calypsonians from Nevis and ten (10) from St Kitts were exposed to the history of the Calypso Art Form, as well as the rudiments of lyrical composition and music. The facilitator was Director of culture, Mr. Creighton Pencheon and he was ably assisted by Jazzique Chiverton.

Two (2) more workshops are being scheduled for the month of October in preparation for the Carnival activities. The Department of Culture will again honour its commitment this year to provide musical arrangement, studio recording and a band for accompaniment for the young and upcoming Calypsonians.

Meanwhile, the Department of Culture has already convened a meeting with Calypsonians, potential judges and other stakeholders to examine and consider a Draft Policy Paper governing the National Carnival Calypso Competitions. A follow up meeting is expected this coming Wednesday to further ventilate issues discussed in the Draft Policy Paper with a view towards completing the document well in advance of the upcoming National Carnival Season.
