Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, Prime Minister of St. Kitts & Nevis
Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Hon. Denzil Douglas, maintains that his Labour Party Administration continues to place much emphasis on “law and order”.

The Prime Minister made the claim while speaking to the media at his regular monthly press conference at Government Headquarters, on September 11th.
He all but admitted that the Police Force especially is short on human resource and let out a passionate appeal to residents and qualified persons to apply to become police officers.

Dr. Douglas took the opportunity to commend several officers who are on leave for their years of invaluable service in the Police Force. Among those mentioned were Commissioner Robert Jeffers, who has tendered his resignation, and Deputy Commissioner Meredith Charles, who is on long leave.

Prime Minister Douglas explained that in the case of Deputy Commissioner Charles, he had accrued many months of vacation and he was asked to take vacation because of financial ramifications. However, it was also realized that Charles had reached the age of retirement and the relevant authorities are working toward making the most suitable decision once his vacation time is complete.

The country’s leader also took the opportunity to register his full support for the acting “top cops”, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Stafford Liburd.
Dr. Douglas indicated that there must be increased collaboration between the Police/ Security Officers and the general public, if there is to be any serious curbing of crime and violence.

~~Adz:Left~~He noted that there has been some concern with regards to the privilege of confidentiality when it comes to the provision of information to the Police but he quickly noted that the Police are doing everything in their power to ascertain that justice prevails.
He added that there have been allegations with regards to the breaching of the confidentiality status of the general public but he indicated that every time such allegations come about, investigations have been launched to address the situation.
He admonished residents to continue to collaborate with the Police in the hope of paving the way to alleviating the unusually high incidents of crime and violence.
