    “Empowerment holds for us the meaning that our people must be at the centre of all economic and social activity on Nevis,” said Premier of Nevis, Hon. Joseph Parry at the recently held Consultation on the Economy of Nevis, which took place on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007 at the Four Seasons Resort. 

    Education and training will be the focus of the Premier and his cabinet , as they insist that local people must be employed at all levels of activity in new investments and supporting entrepreneurship / activity through concessions, marketing assistance and managerial support. The  government will also provide land at a reduced cost  and also in the construction of affordable homes to achieve true empowerment of the people of Nevis.   

    The Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) in its new dispensation has determined that every child must be able to read and write before he/she leaves Primary school. 

     

     ~~Adz:Right~~“Every child must have access to the text books necessary for a proper education. Every child must receive the type of nutrition that supports high levels of performance at school. Every child should be encouraged to realise their full potential", said Mr. Parry.

     

    The Nevis Island Administration has demonstrated their support to primary school children, with free text books and an expansion in the school feeding program for all children in primary government schools.
     
    Presently, a total of 93 students are attending college overseas, with 40 studying regionally and 50 internationally. The areas of concentration are Business, Law, Hospitality, Sciences, Humanities, Engineering, Health, Social Sciences and Technical studies.
      
    Over 200 persons have been trained in small business development, sports, computer skills and community activities.  The Government has identified every school leaver for training and has been assisting in job placement exercises.
