SIR JOHN (in brown suit) - with leaders of the OECS in earlier times
I am deeply saddened by the passing of Sir John Compton.  He was a distinguished Caribbean Statesman, and a great and charismatic Leader of international repute.

He was fiery and passionate about ensuring that the process of development would serve the needs of the people of St. Lucia and the Caribbean, and improve their standard of living and their quality of life.

He achieved great success in the development of St. Lucia’s infrastructure with the building of highways, airports, industrial complexes and housing projects.

He has left an indelible mark on the social and institutional infrastructure of St. Lucia and the Caribbean Community.  In his more than forty years of public service he has played significant roles in the establishment and growth of CARICOM, the CDB, the WISA, the ECCB and the OECS.

     Sir Kennedy A. Simmonds

St. Lucia has lost one of its most distinguished sons.  The people of the OECS and of the Caribbean Community were fortunate to be served with great distinction, integrity, vision and passion by this Leader who attracted great love and loyalty from those he served.

That he was several times over Prime Minister of St. Lucia is a significant tribute to his tenacity, his commitment and his love for his Country and its people.

I am privileged to have served with Sir John in our regional organizations.  I am proud that he was not only my colleague, but my friend.

     Sir John Compton
I always remember his address to the PAM Convention in 1993, when he stressed the importance of making the right choice in electing a Government.

He likened the process of filling a bucket of water with a teaspoon.

The process is tedious, requiring perseverance, patience, dedication, and it takes time.

~~Adz:Right~~ Then he drove home the point that some d.. fool can come along and kick over the bucket, and all the good work done with diligence and wisdom is destroyed in the twinkling of an eye.  John Compton was a wise man, and an unforgettable Caribbean Hero.

Lady Simmonds joins with me in extending heartfelt condolences to Lady Janice Compton and the entire Compton family.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
