Visiting preacher Pastor Egerton Bowen from Barbados
A visiting preacher from Barbados, Pastor Egerton Bowen, yesterday (Saturday) told leaders to turn to God when faced with crisis.

Pastor Bowen was speaking during an Independence Service held at Shiloh Baptist Church, Ramsbury, Nevis.  “Solomon asked for wisdom and knowledge that he may govern his people.  Consult God before your deliberations.

“People have put confidence in you, show them the confidence you have,” he said.  He urged politicians to deliver on the promises they make on their campaign trails and advised them to go back to the electorate and inform them when they are unable to deliver on all the promises.

Bowen told leaders to seek wisdom from God when faced with crisis, “Consult God before your deliberations.  Be like Solomon.  Ask God for His wisdom.”   Solomon had sought wisdom from God to be able to judge his people.

Turning to II Chronicles, Chapter 20, he reminded them of biblical Jehosphat who had turned to God during a time of crisis when a

great army was coming to fight his small troop.  He said leaders can be at crossroads and said at such a time, Jehosphat had turned to God “when he did not know what to do.”

“He proclaimed a fast,” Bowen said and added that Jehosphat’s enemies had destroyed themselves after God had fought the battle for him.  “Blessed is the nation that worships God,” Bowen said.  The preacher said leaders could not depend on themselves.  “Jehosphat expressed confidence in God and depended on God.”

He also urged the leaders to have vision for the people they were leading.  “You must know what you want to accomplish.  Put country before self,” the visiting preacher said.

“May be you have a health problem or a financial problem.  May be you are here and you are not saved.  Any problem you have and you do not know what to do, take it to God.  We can depend on God in the crisis of our life.  We can always remember the prayer of Jehosphat.  Are your prayers upon the Lord this morning?.  Keep your eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of your life.”
