Cable & Wireless Press Release

Cable &Wireless unveils advanced Network Operations Center
facility to serve Americas & Caribbean

St. Michael, Barbados – September 13, 2007 – Today Cable & Wireless, the leading full-service telecommunications provider in the Caribbean, announced the launch of a new, cutting-edge Network Operations Center (NOC) to serve its businesses in the region.  The facility was declared open by The Honourable Reginald R. Farley JP MP, Acting Prime Minister of Barbados.   Members of the Board of Directors of Cable & Wireless Barbados and senior executives from Cable & Wireless International were in attendance at the opening, along with invited members of the media from across the Caribbean.

Located in Wildey, Barbados, the NOC monitors Cable & Wireless’ fixed, mobile and broadband networks across its 14 businesses throughout the region, as well as their global interconnections.  The NOC enables unified, pro-active and efficient management of network resources across the region.

Said Chris Hetherington, chief executive officer, Cable & Wireless Americas & Caribbean, “The new NOC is another sign of our commitment to our customers and our businesses in the region.  We are using world-class technology to manage a key factor in customer experience – our networks.”

The US$2.5 million facility provides pan-regional monitoring and detection of faults, enabling quick diagnosis and resolution.  In addition, it measures Quality of Service against internal and customer Service Level Agreements to help Cable & Wireless optimize experience and maintain commitments to customers.

Cable & Wireless International’s Chief Executive Officer Harris Jones explained, “The new NOC is future-fitted to enable deployment of strategic technical upgrades across our businesses.  Simply stated, this NOC will be ready as we move toward a Next Generation Network (NGN) infrastructure and further converged and managed services.  It will enable us to install new applications rapidly, keeping our customers on the leading edge of innovation.  And, we’ll be able to do so in a controlled manner, with the visibility and measures in place to ensure that we live up to the promises we make to our customers.”

Over 30 members of staff in Barbados have received advanced training to operate the regional NOC facility.  Colleagues employed at the regional Service Operations Center, located in Jamaica, have undergone special training as well.  Employees of the two facilities collaborate to provide redundancy and ensure service continuity 24/7.

The launch of the new NOC comes on the heels of last week’s introduction of upgraded speed and value for the company’s broadband propositions, and a new pan-regional brand, Cable & Wireless Broadband.
