Drag Race President Speaks Out

Raynaldo Chiverton, President of Nevis Auto Sports, expressed disappointment at the way unidentified leaders handled the Drag Race yesterday.
Chiverton spoke to SKNVibes on Wednesday. He said, a cross section of leaders in Nevis had held several meetings and it had been communicated to him and club members that official permission had been granted and they could go on with the race on Independence Day.
The Club alleged that, a Nevisian who acted in his private capacity as a “Concerned Citizen” blocked the road and informed members of the club it was against the laws of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis to hold the race. Chiverton said he was ignorant of sections of the constitution that term such a race as illegal.
Chiverton said after the private citizen had blocked the Long Point road, there were responses by various institutions including the police and the government. “The police too parked their vehicles in the middle of the road.”
Chiverton admitted that certain safety rules required by law were beyond reach but noted that the club members had done what was within their reach. “The fact that the race could not be held confused everybody. Spectators had come from St. Kitts and from as far as Antigua,” he said.~~Adz:Right~~
Chiverton confirmed that there was high level communication between Basseterre and Charlestown and for a moment permission was granted from a “higher” level but for reasons he does not understand, the race did not take place.
Contacted for comment, leaders remained quiet on Wednesday. They promised to issue statements at an appropriate time.
