Leader of the Opposition Hon. Mark Brantley
    (Charlestown, Nevis)
--- Recently elected Federal representative for Nevis District 9 which comprises St. John’s and St. Paul’s, the Hon. Mark Brantley has publicly pledged to work tirelessly in advancing the cause of the island of Nevis.

The proclamation came during a brief interview with SKNVibes.com where the local lawyer outlined his vision for the people of St. Kitts, Nevis.

“In the bi-election I approached the Nevisian electorate with honesty and integrity and I was humbled by the victory. I am pleased that the people of St. Johns and St. Paul’s have invested their trust in me and I promise them that I shall never disappoint them. I think the people of Nevis by their vote indicated that they demand a higher form of politics where we focus on issues rather than base attacks on personalities”, said Mr. Brantley.

The local lawyer was recently designated by the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) as Leader of the Opposition in the Federal Parliament after his win at the polls in the Nevis 9 bi-elections last month.  The Leader of the Opposition is the principal opposition figure in the Federal Parliament.

His role is to articulate views in Parliament which ensure that the Government of the day is kept honest and that laws are passed which are in the best interest of the people of the country. From this backdrop Mr. Brantley expressed his desire to positively impact local legislation in the favor of Nevisians and Kittitians alike.~~Adz:Right~~

“Local legislation is done through the Nevis Island Assembly of which I am also a member.  I look forward to fulfilling my role there in seeking to ensure that laws are passed in the best interests of the people of Nevis.

“I am very grateful to the people of St. Johns and St. Paul’s for the confidence they have invested in me. I shall not disappoint them and pledge to serve them with God's help with distinction. I also see myself as a role model for the young people of Nevis specifically and of St. Kitts and Nevis more generally and pledge to conduct myself in such a way as to continue to bring honour to the National Assembly”, said Mr. Brantley in ending the interview.

Hon. Mark Brantley was elected to office on Monday 26th August, 2007 in a bi-election that was necessitated by the sudden passing of then Leader of the Opposition in the Federal Government Hon. Malcolm Guishard.
