Kiwanis Club Coordinates Annual Gift Package for 2007 Independence Baby

Basseterre, 20 September 2007:- The Kiwanis Club of Liamuiga, as part of its annual community project, has over the last 3 years, made a donation to the parents of the first baby born on Independence Day, and this year is no different.

On Wednesday, 19 September 2007, members of the civic organisation donated a basket of baby items to the parents of Desreana Summer Tashane Thomas, the first baby delivered at the J N France Hospital at 6:05a.m. on Independence Day.  Proud parents, Mr and Mrs Rashaedi Thomas, who reside in Shadwell Housing Estate, were surprised at the gift and accepted the kind donation of the Kiwanis Club to their first born.

The idea of the donation is to add to the celebrations of the birth of the nation and the birth of the 1st born on Independence Day.

Incoming President of the Kiwanis Club, Mr Leon Bullen stated that “it’s a way of giving back to the community and to the persons who make St Kitts and Nevis the country that it is.”  He went on to say that “the Club maintains a record of the previous Independence Day babies and celebrates their birthdays with a card specially signed by the members of the Club.”

The main focus of Kiwanis International is the development and betterment of children, starting with the immediate communities of the local clubs.
