CTDF and UCF make donations to Cardin Home and JNF General Hospital

BASSETERRE St. Kitts – The Concerned Taxi Drivers Foundation (CTDF) in collaboration with the University of Central Florida (UCF) did great deeds today (July 20) with not one but two donations of linens to both the Cardin Home and the JNF General Hospital.

The first stop was the Cardin Home where members of the CTDF and UCF gathered and handed over a generous and greatly appreciated donation to Gail Cranstoun, Supervisor of the Home and Nurse Bass, the Nurse in charge.

President of the CTDF, Winston Duporte, in making the presentation explained that the Foundation came about as a result of the group wanting to give back to the community and institutions such as the Home, and in keeping with their mission, they have made the donation which is one of many.

Upon receiving the donation, Nurse Bass thanked CTDF and UCF for their generous contribution towards the welfare of the Home. She said that the members of the Home are always appreciative when persons take the initiative to make contributions.

DHL was acknowledged for their hand in the contribution as Kevin Meehan, a member of the UCF group stated that the donation would not be possible had it not been for DHL providing free shipping from Orlando to St. Kitts.
The next stop was at the JNF General Hospital. Once again the members gathered and handed over linen sheets and comforters to Miss Adams, Operations Manager at the hospital.

While handing over the contribution, Meehan gave details of how the UCF became involved in the charitable donation.

“We have been here for four years. Last year as we [Duporte and himself] were going to the airport and discussing the Foundation and their activities, we wanted to figure out something we could do to join together in some charitable work and he [Duporte] mentioned the need for linens at JNF and that seemed to be a workable project.

As we put this year’s students together, they engaged in a ‘linen drive’ which took about one month and the students in this particular group from a programme called the Presidents Scholars Programme...they spent a lot of time collecting and preparing the linens,” Meehan explained. He again acknowledged DHL, whose representative was present during this presentation, for the part they played in the contribution.

Miss Adams, on receiving the contribution thanked both the CTDF and UCF on behalf of the Institution-Based Health Services and the Ministry of Health. She promised that the contribution would be put to good use noting that health care is very costly and any donations received is greatly appreciated.

Speaking with SKNVibes, Duporte explained that the Cardin Home and JNF were the lucky receivers of these donations because generally, institutions such as these are always in need of these items.

A recent donation was made by the CTDF in the form of pillows and fans to JNF, items that are also considered a need in that institution.
