PM Douglas calls on society to embrace, advise and encourage the youth

St. Kitts and Nevis' Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas greets students of the Sandy Point High School during a recent visit
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, SEPTEMBER 24TH 2007 (CUOPM) – A call for the St. Kitts and Nevis community to do all it can to embrace the youth, communicate with them, advise them, befriend them, encourage them and guide them.

“We simply cannot afford to give up on them or to be weary in doing well for the benefit of the society as a whole. I am again persuaded that the obligation for preparing our children to assume the responsibility of productive citizenship is a societal obligation. It is not just the responsibility of the teacher or the parent or the pastor. After all, our generation has benefited from the nurturing of a caring and sharing society. We should offer no less to our children of today,” said St.  Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas in his message to mark the 24th Anniversary of Independence.

Dr. Douglas said that his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Government will continue to do its part by expanding youth employment opportunities, providing loans and scholarships for further studies, providing more Guidance Counselling at schools, providing more facilities for sports and recreations, and strengthening the facilities for rescuing children at risk and for rehabilitating those who get into trouble with the Law.

“But we also need the support of the entire society in this most noble endeavour,” said the Prime Minister.
