St. Kitts Tourism Authority

Press Release from HTA meeting with Min Skerritt.

Meeting with Tourism Minister, Hon. Ricky Skerritt
Another new flight from the United States and more ongoing co-operation  between government and tourism industry representatives were among the  topics on the table at a recent meeting between Tourism Minister Richard “Ricky” Skerritt and the St. Kitts and Nevis Hotel and Tourism Association.

Minister Skerritt told the HTA representatives that a deal has been made between the government and Delta Airlines for a weekly service out of Atlanta. The flights will be on Saturdays, starting on February 16.

Also on the airline front, Minister Skerritt reported that the weekly Excel service out of London had shown a passenger increase of 18 per cent in the 2007 summer season. Excel, said Minister Skerritt, will be putting a new Boeing 767 into service for its Caribbean flights, and its general manager will be visiting St. Kitts on Sept. 25 to get comments and feedback on the service.

~~Adz:Right~~ On October 16 there will be a symposium involving all tourism partners - government and private industry - and following this the Tourism Ministry will schedule a brainstorming exercise to review the discussions.

The meeting also discussed a planned retreat between the HTA, the Nevis Tourism Authority and the St. Kitts Tourism Authority.

Concerns were also raised at the meeting about staffing and catering at Robert Llewelyn Bradshaw International Airport, an outbreak of crime in the Frigate Bay area, the condition of the ferry terminal, and the condition of the island’s main tourism beaches.

Minister Skerritt also told the meeting that U.S. $1.5 million will be spent on beautification and landscaping of Port Zante over the next couple of years.
