BASSETERRE St.Kitts, July 27th, 2011 - As the sun peeked over the horizon on Saturday 23 July, pick and plant in hand, National Bank staffers were seen in their numbers landscaping the roadside at the F.T Williams Highway in St Kitts. By the time the morning joggers and cyclists took to the road, twenty-five sturdy and stunning Frangipani trees had already been planted.
Mr. Anthony Galloway, Chair of the Community Outreach Committee had this to say about the project, “We will ensure that proper growth conditions are maintained giving these trees every opportunity to flourish. In years to come, this road will be a sight to behold with the bountiful spread of the Frangipani, blooming and stretching into the distance as one drives along the highway.”
At the end of the day, National with the assistance of the Parks and Beaches Unit, had left a lasting impression upon this extensive stretch of road. National will continue this project in Nevis, planting of 15 fruit trees along the Pinneys Bypass Road. By the end of the year, National would have planted 40 trees symbolizing each year of “fruitful operations”.
This project is the 12th event in the 40th Anniversary calendar of activities. The Craft House is commended for building the protective barriers for the trees using recycled material which was donated by the St. Kitts Port Authority and Carib Brewery.
